Dr Eilish McLoughlin

Associate Professor and Head of School of Physical Sciences, Dublin City University 

Dr Eilish McLoughlin is an Associate Professor and Head of School of Physical Sciences at Dublin City University. Her research interests focus on physics and STEM education at all levels of education. She is a principal investigator with three DCU Research Centre – Centre for the Advancement of STEM Teaching and Learning (CASTeL), Centre for Engaged Research and DCU Water Institute. She has led and collaborated in a wide range of research projects at European and national level that examine active pedagogies, integrated STEM learning, curriculum development and assessment, and teacher professional learning. She is Founding Director of the STEM Teacher Internship (STInt) Progamme which places pre-service primary and post-primary teachers into STEM roles for paid summer internships. The programme’s mission is to promote STEM education and inspire innovative learning by facilitating collaborative partnerships between key stakeholders in schools, Universities and industry. She has received international recognition for her leadership in STEM Education, including Science Foundation Ireland Outstanding Contribution to STEM Communication, 2019; Institute of Physics Lise Meitner Medal, 2019; Institute of Physics Medal, 2022; Women in STEM Outstanding Achievement Award 2023.
