Jane Grimson is Emeritus Professor of Health Informatics at Trinity College Dublin. She was the first woman to graduate in Engineering from Trinity in 1970. Subsequently, as a member of the academic staff, Jane served as the first woman Dean of Engineering and Vice Provost. She is a Past-President of Engineers Ireland, the Irish Academy of Engineering and the Irish Computer Society. She is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Irish Academy of Engineering and Engineers Ireland, and a member of the Royal Irish Academy.
Jane is a strong advocate for the advancement of women in STEM has been involved in many initiatives to support the recruitment, retention and promotion of women in STEM. She was actively involved in both WITS (Women in Technology and Science) and in the early stages of Athena Swan. She chaired the NUI Galway Gender Equality Task Force in 2015-16. In 2017, she and was awarded an honorary degree by NUI Galway for services to engineering and to gender equality in higher education.
