Sindy Meleady is a Science and Maths teacher at the Sacred Heart School, Tullamore, where she has spent eighteen years empowering girls to see themselves as innovators, problem-solvers and leaders in STEM. A driving force behind STEM education in the school, Sindy co-founded the SHS STEMinists programme with her colleague Aisling Burke and has been central to building a vibrant STEM culture from the ground up.
She has mentored students through a wide range of national and international initiatives, including the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition, SciFest, FIRST LEGO League and VEX Robotics. Alongside this, she runs multiple extracurricular clubs — from robotics and LEGO engineering to coding and digital creativity — often giving her breaks, evenings and weekends to ensure every student has a chance to discover her potential.
In 2025, Sindy and her colleague Aisling Burke made Irish STEM history when they coached the first all-female team to ever represent Ireland at the VEX Robotics World Championships. Their students brought home the prestigious Judges Award, earning global recognition for their innovation and teamwork.
Sindy’s long-standing dedication was recognised in 2025 when she and Aisling were named the Business Post’s STEM Mentors of the Year, honouring the profound and lasting impact she has had on young women’s confidence, skills and futures.
