Susan Carroll

Teacher, Loreto College

Susan Carroll is a Primary School Teacher in Loreto College Junior School, St Stephen’s Green, and founder of Loreto Young Entrepreneur’s Club. She has a diploma in Child Psychology and is a tutor with the Dyslexia Association of Ireland. Susan’s teaching methodologies incorporate STEM across the curriculum and, thanks to her Froebel training, she promotes an experiential child-centred approach to teaching, bringing a fun hands-on engagement with subjects, particularly maths. Susan’s passion project is her Young Entrepreneur’s Club. Her students are taught how to set up their business which incorporates designing & pitching their product, assessing their profit margins, using focus groups to ascertain peer feedback, developing marketing strategies, creating advertisements…all the way to analysing the psychology of font & colour use in logos! She promotes the importance of people skills, placing emphasis on networking, collegiality, persistence and resilience. Susan highlights role models in the industry and particularly women who champion entrepreneurship in Ireland. In the interest of gaining a deeper understanding of the changing digital world, Susan has recently completed a course ‘AI in Education’. Her experience as a Learning Support Teacher has also opened her eyes to the multitude of online resources available for children with additional learning needs. Susan is dedicated to the empowerment of young girls in the areas of STEM and entrepreneurship, inculcating the interest in them from a young age. Through her innovative teaching methodologies, she strives to prepare her curious and creative students holistically for a world that is constantly transforming.
